The great ignored fact of all this, is that embryos that are created only to perish, are just as much "aborted" as those conceived beings who are killed in later stages of development. IVF is not God's way. If a couple cannot conceive in the normal fashion, then they just need to accept that they are not called to be parents in the biological order, and either be content to remain childless, or better yet, adopt. There is a massive need for children to be adopted who don't fall into preferred categories --- age, disability, and, yes, race.
And this doesn't even begin to touch all of the mortally sinful methods of contraception that do not actually prevent conception, but take the life of the newly conceived embryo. Every faithful and orthodox Catholic should be horrified at the prospect of women using such contraceptive methods, and killing countless children, and even worse, being assured by an errant "conscience" that their course of action is morally acceptable, and sauntering up to receive communion at Mass on Sundays. (Or is this why so few people go to confession anymore, "don't want to confess it, but don't want not to confess it"? "Conscience", my you-know-what!)
Priests need to be preaching against contraception from the pulpit, and, yes, asking about it in the confessional if the penitent doesn't bring it up, and if the priest has a reason to believe that this mortal sin is being omitted from the confession.
